"Painting is silent poetry, and poetry painting that speaks" --Simonides
My professional goals for this summer fellowship prima vera in three directions, which are informed by a bedrock commitment, personally and professionally. to excellence, including the crafting of scholastically sound, subject-centered, student sensitive instruction.
Experience:
As a writer/reader of poetry and a painter/viewer of oils (see painting modeled after del Sarto, left), I am intrigued by Simonides' observation as I persevere in persistent attention to artistic genius. It is a genius that commands the observant and insistently mirrors complexities of truth, beauty, and le paix, framed by hope, as it precipitates aesthetic evolution.
Fellowship Goals:
(1) study the craft of writing poetry in a workshop for poets in Montolieu, France and study masterpieces in art museums in New York City, Paris, Florence and Venice (2) write free verse about art masterworks studied in these cities (3) sketch copies of masterworks, redux of masterworks, and create original drawings to accompany original verse.
Synthesis: a multi-media articulation of how each medium presents an imaginative conduit for artist and viewer, and how each may act as a mirror of and/or gateway into an enriched understanding and enlarged perspective. Artistic imagination and imagery offer ways for humans to ride the winds of eternity and value the view.
